DG-GES tours affected flood areas in the Volta Region

On Thursday the 9th of November 2023, Dr. Eric Nkansah, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, arrived in the Volta Region to begin a working visit that would last for three days.

Along with a cross section of Directors from the headquarters, Directors in charge of Administration, Guidance and Counselling, Planning, Procurement, Special Education, Girl Child Education, Early Childhood Education, and the Director for Partnerships and Affiliations, they travelled to some of the affected schools and communities located within the North and South Tongu districts.

The purpose of the inspection was to determine how well the Education in Emergency Plan is being carried out in order to guarantee that all schools impacted by the floods would resume normal teaching and learning activities in the shortest amount of time possible.

We were able to hand over 3,000 school uniforms, 800 packs of teaching and learning materials, 10 boxes of school-in-a-box kits, 4 tents, 36 packages of recreation kits and 32 Early Childhood Development kits thanks to the assistance of UNICEF and other organisations that work in the field of development.
