Avoid These 7 Mistakes If You Want To Score Every Mark For A Graph Question. One of the bonus questions of WAEC for BECE candidates is questions involving drawing graphs. There is a higher possibility that this year, a question on a graph will drop. This question is set from the topic, Rigid Motion. Despite the fact that WAEC has been consistently releasing questions on this topic, candidates over the years have developed a penchant for either swerving the question or failing it.

With regard to that, this article will provide BECE candidates, with some mistakes to avoid in order to score a perfect score on a graph question. The Chief Examiner spotted from careful observation the weaknesses of candidates.

a. Non-labeling of axes

It is very wrong for you to assume that the examiner knows which axis is the y-axis and which axis is the x-axis. Some examiners may be considerate. However, generally, students who fail to label their axis, are penalized. Thus, candidates must always label their axis to be on the safer side.

b. Wrong labeling of axes

Whiles others decide not to label their axes, others also wrongly label their axes. That is, some candidates interchange the x-axes for the y-axes. What is more, this is more offensive than forgetting to label it. This is because interchanging the labels of the two axes gives a different picture.

c. Using a wrong scale

To ensure uniformity in solutions from students, WAEC usually provides students with a scale. For example, “Using a scale of 2 cm to 2 units on the x-axes and 2cm to 1 unit on the y-axes….”. In essence, students must follow all instructions on a question.

d. Wrong plotting

Also, students are giving original points to plots. For some reason, candidates plot their own points as opposed to what they were provided. Others also have a general confusion about how to plot points. Therefore, candidates must have a quick revision on how to plot their points.
