Don’t Let Your Index Number Cost You Your WASSCE Results – EduWatch To WASSCE/BECE Candidates
Africa Education Watch Urges WASSCE Candidates to Write Index Number and Full Name on Answer Booklets At The WASSCE 2023 for School Candidates Takes Off.
The 2023 edition of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) commenced today, July 31, 2023. Africa Education Watch (EduWatch) has urged candidates sitting for the examination to write both their index number and full name on their answer booklets.
EduWatch cited WAEC Rule 8(2), which states that “all candidates must write their index number and full name on every answer booklet or sheet before they start writing.” The education think tank said that some students who sat for the WASSCE last year had their subject results cancelled because they did not follow this rule.
“Before you start your practical, written or objective paper, write both the Index number and name on your answer booklet or sheet,” said EduWatch Executive Director Kofi Asare.
More than 448,000 prospective final-year students from public and private Senior High Schools (SHSs) are expected to sit for the 2023 WASSCE for School. This year, Ghana will not write the WASSCE for School with other member countries of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) including Nigeria.
In a related development, EduWatch has established a WASSCE Desk to support the WAEC to end examination malpractice in this year’s WASSCE. The purpose of the WASSCE Desk is to allow members of the general public to report any suspicious activities they notice before or during the conduct of the WASSCE for School.

“EduWatch is supporting the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to end WASSCE fraud. If you see something unusual before or during the WASSCE, call our WASSCE Desk,” said the think tank.
EduWatch’s decision to support the WAEC follows a partnership with OXFAM to monitor the WASSCE for School.
The advice is clear and on point “Don’t Let Your Index Number Cost You Your WASSCE Results” Always remember to write your index number on your answer booklets and also write the question numbers at all places required of you.
