Don’t respond to Mahama in your national address – Jantuah to Akufo-Akufo

Kwame Jantuah, Chairman of the Convention People’s Party’s (CPP) Political Affairs Committee, has warned President Akufo-Addo not to use his Sunday national speech to reply to the recent problems raised by ex-President John Mahama.

Mr. Mahama, speaking at the “Building the Ghana We Want” speech on Thursday evening at the University of Professional Studies in Accra, was harshly critical of the Akufo-Addo government’s poor economic management, which has put many Ghanaians in dire straits.

But the former first gentleman had a few ideas for how to fix the country’s current economic problems. These ideas included cutting the budget for the Office of the President and stopping public funding for the National Cathedral.

Lawyer Jantuah remarked in Friday’s Weekly Review section on Starr FM’s Morning Starr that the President should accept the constructive advice of his predecessor and not use his impending speech as a counter-platform.

“I anticipate the President not coming on Sunday and repeating some of the things he’s been saying.” He should come and provide new choices, new things that Ghanaians may say, to show that we are increasingly gaining trust in our president. When he goes in two years, we will all be able to say, “Wow, we went through a crisis, but President Akufo-Addo was able to get us out of it.” That is what we are asking for, and he should not even attend to Mahama’s address. That was ex-President Mahama’s address, and he understands why he said what he said. People will look at it and say, “Yes, he said that.”

“Because he is the President, his speech should give us confidence, make us feel better, and move the country forward.” I would have loved it if, after President Akufo Addo’s speech on Sunday, he called a meeting of himself, ex-President Mahama, ex-President Kufuor if he could make it, representatives of Chiefs, representatives of civil society, MPs, Judges, and let’s all sit around the table, and see how we can bring what the former President has said and what I have said together as a template to move this country forward. That would be wonderful. ”
