Dr. Apaak lauds McGill University’s Nkabom program for its practical-based training styles
The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has lauded the McGill University Nkabom program for its practical-based training styles.
Dr. Apaak disclosed this at the McGill University Nkabom – Nutrition and Sustainable Agri-Food Collaborative Meeting held at Peduase Valley Resort, Peduase on Wednesday, 9th April 2025.
He indicated that it is a privilege for the Ministry of Education to be part of the Nkabom (Unity) Nutrition and Sustainable Agri-Food Collaborative event.
“This is because issues of youth empowerment through critical skill development are high on the Government’s educational agenda. Of greater relevance to our educational orientation is your partnership’s focus on addressing structural disconnects between educational institutions and the workforce that contribute to unemployment and prioritizing youth in rural farming communities who have limited access to practical education with skills and credentials for successful employment and/or entrepreneurship.
“It is also gratifying to note that the Nkabom (Unity) project seeks to make a fundamental shift from the predominantly theory-based training styles to more experiential training approaches, with the goal of transforming the nutrition agri-food ecosystem”, Dr. Apaak stated.
He continued: “I express a special appreciation to McGill University and the Mastercard Foundation for choosing Ghana for this event, and for your exemplary collaboration and visionary leadership in implementing the Nkabom (Unity) programme. This gesture, to us in the Ministry of Education, embodies a shared commitment to advancing education and sustainable development across Africa.

Dr. Apaak also stated that the partnership initiative is a shining example of a successful model that speaks directly to our government’s vision of nurturing talent, fostering innovation, and equipping students with advanced skills.
“The objectives of the Nkabom (Unity) programme align seamlessly with our collective vision of cultivating a cadre of highly skilled professionals, driving applied research, and harnessing academic expertise to address the pressing development imperatives of our nation.
“An integral part of our targets at the Ministry of Education is to deliver high-quality education, including postgraduate education, and enhance institutional capabilities through the rollout and implementation of effective education policies. Our current Education Strategic Plan seeks to develop an educational system that fosters problem-solving, creativity, and critical skills through a diverse range of academic, technical, and vocational programmes.”
