Dr. Eric Nkansah appointed new GES Director-General

Dr. Eric Nkansah has been named the new Director General of the Ghana Education Service by the President’s office (GES).
His appointment is only temporary, but it starts right away while the Governing Council of the GES and the Public Services Commission decide what to do.
A letter from the Presidency said that Dr. Eric Nkansah should say whether he will take the job within 14 days.
It also happens just one day after Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa was kicked out of the GES because they no longer needed his help.
The second letter, dated today, Wednesday, October 19, 2022, said, “Pursuant to Section 19 (1), (2), (a) of the Pre-Tertiary Education Act, 2020 (Act 1049), I am pleased to inform you that the President has appointed you to be the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service.”

In a letter dated Monday, October 17, 2022, Prof. Opoku-Amankwa was fired from his job.
When he was hired in April 2017, it was made clear that he would leave the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in January 2021. (KNUST).
The contract was extended again in June 2021, but according to a letter from the Presidency, this extension “violates the Human Resource Policy Frame and Manual of the Public Services Commission because it extends your secondment beyond the maximum of three years.”
For example, the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) did not agree with his firing and said it was the wrong choice.
The group said that the change is not only surprising, but that it has also made the members of the association very sad.
This is a big let-down. Angel Carbonu, the president of NAGRAT, said, “We are surprised because we had someone who was able to build a very good relationship with the union.”
It wants the decision made by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to be changed.
“This termination doesn’t sit well with us because it will stop all the talks we’ve been having with the GES Director General, which won’t be good for our members,” he said.
