Develop a standard code of conduct for SHS - Africa Education Watch to Govt

The Africa Education Watch is calling for a standard code of conduct for Public Senior High Schools in the country.

If all teachers have a common a standard code of conduct that governs them, then Public SHSs also need a similar policy to guide governance among others.

The Policy Think Tank said the “MoE should review the current SHS governance arrangement and facilitate the adoption of a standard Code of Conduct for all SHS, irrespective of religious denomination.”

Public Senior High Schools have in the past few months acted to suggest that they have different policies and standards, and the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education have no total control over which policies are implemented. This has led to schools rejecting directives from the GES.

In a press release by the Africa Education Watch dated 5th May, it disclosed it was worried about the happenings between the Wesley Girls High School, GES, and the Methodist Church.

“We are concerned about the ongoing impasse between the Wesley Girls High School, the Methodist Church, and Ghana Education Service (GES) regarding the enforcement of rules that constricts the observance of a MANDATORY religious practice for Muslim students-fasting” the statement indicated.
