Teachers pair 6 classes in 3 classrooms as govt refuses to open Mahama’s Green book school building (Viral Video)

Ghana Education News | Teachers pair 6 classes in 3 classrooms as govt refuses to open Mahama’s Green book school building (Viral Video).

A video circulation on social media and the associated narrative has indicated that the government of Ghana has refused to open a newly built three classroom block by the previous administration for students to use.

The school is located in the Praso a community in the Asante Akim North District Assembly (AANDA) which is one of the newly created districts in Ghana carved out of the then Asante Akim North Municipal.

The old school building which was accommodating pupils was pulled down and a new one was built ahead of the 2016 general election. According to the commentators, the school building was captured in Mahama’s Green book as a completed project.

When the current government won the 2016 elections, efforts by the headteacher, teachers, and community members to get the GES and the District Assembly to allow the facility to be used for teaching and learning has proved futile.

A teacher speaking on anonymity disclosed that this has compelled the school to merge two groups of students so that they can use the remaining three old classrooms while the new one is still under lock and key. The headmaster has written several letters to the Ghana Education Service according to the anonymous teacher however, no positive responses have been received.

Both the new three classroom block and the old one are on the same premises with the new one haven been taken over by weeds and goats.  The video commentator asked if the government and the GES wanted the children to learn in the open or under trees.
