Education Think Tank – Africa Education Watch says it will Thursday, November 4, 2021, publish a report on fraud and examination malpractices it detected in the just ended 2021 WASSCE for School Candidates conducted by WAEC.

Mr Kofi Asare, the Executive Director of the Watch disclosed on Monday after his outfit met with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education over the cases of questions leakages which occurred during the examination.

“Our team responded to an invitation by the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education to present and discuss our yet to be published research into 2021 WASSCE 2021 fraud and malpractices,” he said in a post sighted EducationWeb.

The stakeholders at the meeting he said agreed to strengthen questions security and ensure collaborative efforts to deal with matters of exams questions leakages to safeguard the integrity and credibility of pre-tertiary examinations.

The impending report follows a monitoring exercise the Education Policy Research and Advocacy Organization (EduWatch) and its partner OXFAM embarked on during the administration of the international examination.

The monitoring process according to EduWatch’s Executive Director was to improve accountability in the Education Assessment Sector and safeguard the integrity and credibility of pre-tertiary examinations conducted in the country.

The 2021 report will be the second time the Think Tank has published a statement on the international examination conducted for Senior High School students and supervised by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

African Education Watch last year launched a report on the 2020 edition of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) but the non-profit-making organization (WAEC) described it as inaccurate and misleading.

EduWatch in its report advised WAEC to introduce an internet-based encrypted email system that sends questions 30 minutes ahead of the commencement of examinations, by which time all candidates should be seated.

The Kofi Asare led Education Policy Research and Advocacy Organization also suggested for the WASSCE questions to be printed in the open at the Centre and shared with ith the provision of Wi-Fi in all Senior High Schools (SHSs).

But, the Management of the Council commenting on the Watch’s 2020 independent assessment report said the Education Policy Research Organization did not consult them before publishing the report on the WASSCE for School.

The independent Examination Body in the country threatened to file a lawsuit against Africa Education Watch for claiming the 2020 WASSCE questions were intentionally leaked to the first beneficiaries of free SHS policy.
