JHS students may begin selection of Senior High Schools after BECE
The Latest Ghana Education News update is that JHS students may begin selection of Senior High Schools after BECE has been written.
The 2021 selection of Senior High Schools by this year’s BECE candidates is likely to commence after the conduct of the 31st edition of the national examination, a staff of the Ministry of Education (MoE) has told EducationWeb.com.gh.
The deputy spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Yaw Opoku Mensah speaking exclusively to EducationWeb’s Okyere Darko George said the Ghana Education Service has ended a successful pilot of the school selection process.
“We have educated them on the new format of the school choices and the technical team have completed the pilot, so it’s likely that the 2021 BECE candidates may begin the selection of schools before or after the exams” Yaw stated.
The Director-General of GES Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa has also disclosed the Ministry of Education has reviewed the school selection guidelines of the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
He speaking at a press briefing said the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Education Ministry from Monday, August 30, 2021, will commence a pilot of the reviewed selection of schools guidelines until September 1, 2021.
Prof Kwasi Amankwa noted that the final year Junior High School students preparing to sit for the 31st edition of BECE for School after the piloting will start the selection of their preferred Senior High School (SHSs) for placement.
“The Senior High School (SHS) selection sensitization and guidelines exercise will take place in all the respective Regional, District Education Directorate and Junior High Schools,” the GES Director-General told journalists.

The Professor has advised parents and guardians of the 2021 BECE for School candidates to take a keen interest in the selection of schools process to ensure a smooth Senior High School (SHS) placement of their wards.

The school selection process which usually starts before the final year students sits for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School last year delayed amid the outbreak of the global novel coronavirus pandemic.
