Embrace Free SHS despite its challenges – GES boss

Although the Free SHS policy is undeniably saddled with many bottlenecks, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa has called on Ghanaians to embrace it.
He made this known while speaking on education issues on Peace 104.3 FM’s Kokrooko show monitored by Ghanaeducation.org.
Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa admitted the Free Education Policy introduced by the Nana Addo-led administration had challenges. However, he called on citizens to help deal with the bottlenecks.
According to him, most Ghanaians are benefiting from the free education policy for second-cycle schools.
“I have heard some people saying the Free SHS should be reviewed to address its challenges but Free SHS is the great thing the country has done and should be welcomed,” He disclosed to the host of the Peace FM Kokrooko show.
He was quick to add that problems facing Ghana’s education sector at the pre-tertiary level are not the results of the Free SHS but rather old and unsolved challenges of the past.
“Not all the problems currently in the education sector are as a result of the Free SHS, some of them we came to meet,” the Ghana Education Service (GES) Director-General told Kwame Sefa Kayi.
