EP Church Ghana Elects Rev. Prof. Frederick Mawusi Amevenku As 15th Moderator

The General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) has elected the Rev. Prof. Frederick Mawusi Amevenku as the 15th Moderator of the Church. The election was confirmed through the declaration of voting results at 6:46pm today, Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the ongoing 12th General Assembly of the Church in Ho.

Rev. Prof. Amevenku, who currently serves as the President of Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon, and District Minister of the EPCG Kisseman District, assumes the highest leadership position of the Church following his election by the General Assembly.

In the election, Rev. Prof. Frederick Mawusi Amevenku polled 111 votes, representing 72.55% of the total votes cast, to emerge victorious over his contender, Rev. Prof. Daniel Yao Bruce who garnered 41 votes, representing 26.80%. 1 vote was rejected.

He is a Professor of New Testament Studies and Biblical Hermeneutics, with research and teaching interests in Mother-Tongue Theologising, the Gospels, Pauline Studies, Disability Hermeneutics, and Biblical Interpretation in the African context, among other areas.

Rev. Prof. Amevenku was commissioned into the ordained ministry of the EPCG in 2005. Over the years, he has pastored several districts and congregations in the Church, including Kpedze, Ashalley Botwe, Nima, Adenta, Tetegu, and Kisseman. He also currently serves as the National President of the EPCG Pastors’ Association.

He joined the faculty of Trinity Theological Seminary in 2011 and has since risen through the academic and administrative ranks to become the President of the institution.

With his election as Moderator, Rev. Prof. Amevenku will have to relinquish his current leadership responsibilities, including his position as President of Trinity Theological Seminary, his role as District Minister of the Kisseman District, and his current service as President of the EPCG National Pastors Association. These transitions will enable him to devote his full attention to the aenormous responsibility of providing spiritual, pastoral, and administrative leadership to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana. He will assume full responsibility of the Church as the Moderator from 1st January, 2027.
