Olympic champions United States are counting on NBA stars like Anthony Edwards, Austin Reaves and Jalen Brunson as well as first national team coach Steve Kerr.
The draw for the FIBA World Cup took place in Manila, the capital of Filipino on 29 April.
Luis Scola, Jorge Garbajosa and Dirk Nowitzki enabled to earn the draw where holders Spain were placed in Group G alongside Islamic Republic of Iran, Cote d’Ivoire and Brazil.
Team USA is in Group C with Jordan, New Zealand and Greece who are playing without Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Philippines, Japan and Indonesia – who failed to qualify – will co-host the tournament which began on 25 August and ends on 10 September with the final taking place in Manila’s Mall of Asia Arena.
Host venues were able to select teams to be pre-allocated to groups. That saw Philippines in Group A in Manila’s Araneta Coliseum and the United States in Group C in the Mall of Asia Area.
Japan and Luka Doncic’s Slovenia were selected to Groups E and F respectively in Okinawa, Japan with Canada in Group H in the Indonesian capital Jakarta.
