Fidelity Bank Uplifts Abbeykope D/A Basic School With New Classrooms And Renovations
Fidelity Bank, renowned as Ghana’s largest privately-owned bank, has recently brought about a transformative change at Abbeykope D/A Basic School located in the Ningo Prampram District.
As part of its “Orange Impact” initiative, the bank took significant steps by constructing a new three-unit classroom block and renovating the existing six-unit block.
Moreover, it also installed an advanced rainwater harvesting system to enhance sustainability.
The celebration of these achievements was marked by an official handover ceremony on April 30, 2024, at the school premises.
This event was a festive occasion that gathered the entire Abbeykope community. Dignitaries such as the District Chief Executive, the Chief District Director of Education, and local chiefs and elders were in attendance.
The event also saw participation from parents, teachers, and representatives from partner organizations such as Pencils of Promise and the Center for Sustainable Transformation (EcoSchools).
Before these enhancements, Abbeykope D/A Basic School, established in 2006, had not experienced significant upgrades.
According to the headmaster, Mr. Enoch Anyingmor Teye, the lack of facilities was becoming increasingly problematic as the school’s enrollment expanded.
Students faced numerous challenges including damaged desks, overcrowded classrooms, and leaky roofs that disrupted classes during rainy seasons, leading to security concerns over the deteriorating infrastructure.
“Whenever it rained, classes would come to a halt,” Mr. Teye noted, pointing out the severe impact on the students’ learning experience.
The turning point came when the Dreamjuly Foundation, recognizing the dire needs of the school, referred Abbeykope to the Fidelity Bank Accra East Sector.
This referral led to the school being chosen for the transformative Orange Impact initiative.
Not only were the existing classrooms renovated, but the addition of a new three-unit classroom block now significantly benefits the school’s 975 students—497 girls and 477 boys—and 21 teachers by providing a more conducive learning environment.
This project, however, extended beyond merely upgrading physical infrastructure. In a collaborative effort with EcoSchools, Fidelity Bank facilitated the provision of six recycling bins to promote environmental cleanliness among the students.

The newly installed rainwater harvesting system not only supports environmental sustainability but also ensures the availability of a renewable water source, instilling a sense of eco-consciousness in the next generation.
During the ceremony, Simon Adu-Gyamfi, representing the Deputy Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, spoke about the bank’s commitment to leveling the educational playing field.
“We were struck by the potential of the Abbeykope community, as well as the challenges they faced,” he remarked. “Limited resources meant students at Abbeykope D/A Basic School didn’t have the same opportunities as others.
These new classrooms and renovations aim to bridge that gap and empower students to reach their full potential.”
The profound impact of these changes was echoed by the school’s headmaster, who expressed deep gratitude towards Fidelity Bank.
He highlighted how the renovations and new facilities would not only enhance student learning but also motivate teachers and encourage parents to keep their children in school.
“This project will benefit generations to come,” Mr. Teye emphasized, urging other organizations and individuals to join in similar efforts to boost educational opportunities.
Mrs. Solace Osei-Appiah, the District Director of Education, also praised Fidelity Bank for adhering to all proper procedures and approvals throughout the project.
She expressed heartfelt gratitude for the bank’s commitment to education and national development.
Students, parents, and community elders shared similar sentiments, celebrating the positive impact of Fidelity Bank’s investment in their community.
The success of Abbeykope D/A Basic School serves as a shining example of how the Orange Impact initiative, launched in 2022 during Fidelity Bank’s 15th anniversary, is making substantial strides in supporting under-resourced schools across Ghana.
Through this ongoing effort, Fidelity Bank aims to continue fostering educational equity and community development, thereby shaping the future of countless young minds.
