Fix The Motorway #FixTheMotorway Trending (Ghana’s Death Trap)

Fix The Motorway Hash Tag #FixTheMotorway is trending on social media for valid reasons. The current state of Tema Motorway makes it Ghana’s Death Trap. The motorway has been left to deteriorate by the government, making it a serious national security issue.

All manner of avoidable accidents are happening on the once glorious road that connected the Tema harbour and other huge industries in Tema to the rest of Ghana.

The Tema Motorway officially known as the N1 Highway is a 19-kilometre (12 mi) highway that links Tema to Accra—the capital of Ghana. It is the only motorway in Ghana and serves as a major highway in Ghana that connects the capital city of Accra with the industrial city of Tema

The Tema Motorway is part of the West African International Roads used for transporting goods and all manner of supplies to and from Tema to other parts of Ghana and the sub-region.

Although it was constructed way back, the government has decided to leave it dilapidated like it is now in the face of the poor maintenance culture of this nation.

Fix The Motorway Hash Tag #FixTheMotorway is trending on social media for valid reasons. The current state of Tema Motorway makes it Ghana's Death Trap.

Videos and pictures showing the poor state of the motorway have been pouring in on social media, especially Twitter, as Ghanaians call on the government to Fix The Motorway. Several videos showing accidents on the road have also taken centre stage to drive home the call to get the road put in a better state to curb all avoidable road accidents that are killing travellers on the stretch.

Ghanaians are asking for the Tema Motorway to be fixed is a call in the right direction. It is sad that when the government declared the year of roads, the Tema Motorway never got the needed attention from the government and the road has been virtually left to rot.

In a related development, @CitiTVGH kicked off a War Against Indiscipline Campaign to curb the lawlessness & recklessness of drivers that pose several threats to the life of the Ghanaian on our roads/streets. This is a good initiative, however, the government needs to take urgent measures to put the road back in shape. The Tema Motorway needs a permanent and lasting solution as we get the road fixed.

Dealing with the countless potholes that have invaded nearly every part of the road will help breathe life and safety onto the roads. The street lights on the road also need to be fixed properly to ensure greater visibility at night for motorists and pedestrians.

Ghana’s glorious Tema Motorway has become a death trap, and the time to fix it is now!
