Forbes Releases List of Richest African Billionaires in 2023
The Richest Africans is an annual ranking of the richest African people, compiled and published by the American business magazine Forbes. The list has been published since 2015.
Aliko Dangote has topped the list for a very long time. In 2018, there was a record of 23 African billionaires on the list.[ Individuals who are from Africa, but don’t reside in the continent (such as Elon Musk and Mo Ibrahim) are omitted by Forbes from the list.
1. Aliko Dangote
He maintain his stance as the richest man in Africa.
With a net worth of $13.6 billion, Aliko Dangote continues to hold on to the title of the World’s Richest Black Person.
Meanwhile, Mike Adenuga, Chairman of Globacom, was ranked third in Nigeria with a fortune of $5.7 billion. He was replaced as the second richest man in Nigeria by Abdul Samad Rabiu, who now has a fortune of $7.4 billion.
According to Forbes, Only seven of the 54 countries in Africa are home to billionaires on the list of world billionaires. There are six billionaires in Egypt, five in South Africa, three in Nigeria, two in Morocco, and one each in Zimbabwe, Algeria, and Tanzania.

Nassa Sawiris- $7.4 billion

Mohammed Dewji – $1.5 billion
Aziz Alchannouch- $1.5 billion
Othman Benjelloun- $1.3 billion

Aliko Dangote (born 10 April 1957) is a Nigerian billionaire business magnate. Dangote is the founder, chairman and CEO of the Dangote Group, the largest industrial conglomerate in West Africa. According to Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Dangote’s net worth is estimated at US$18.7 billion as of 8 January 2023, making him the richest person in Africa, the richest black person, and the 78th richest person in the world.
