Free SHS Don’t charge Any fees no Matter How Justified – Apaak to Heads
Dr Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South and Member of Parliament’s Education Committee, has urged heads of senior high schools to resist the temptation to charge Senior High School(SHS) students fees no matter what challenge they face in administering their schools.
Dr Apaak regretted that some heads of senior high schools have been interdicted for charging unapproved SHS fees. He added that the heads need to report whatever challenges they face to the GES and wait for their direction.
“Follow the rules of the game as presented to you by GES or the Ministry. Don’t be father Christmas… It is unfortunate that we have to start the school year with interdictions.
If someone owns the schools, then you are working for someone, regardless of how justified the reasons are. The rule states clearly that do not charge any fees in any shape or form. So you don’t charge in any shape or form, there are consequences… The right thing to do is to just report that there is no unit on your prepaid, and you will wait until such a time that the authorities will provide the prepaid,” he advised.
Dr Apaak’s piece of advice comes after the GES swiftly interdicted 11 heads of senior high schools for charging first-year students unapproved fees.
