GES denies secret recruitment, sale of teaching appointment

The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has denied claims of secretly recruiting unemployed graduate-trained teachers into the service for teaching.

In a statement sighted by GhanaEducation.org, the Ghana Education Service (GES) also refuted the allegation that some individuals are paying amounts of up to GH¢25,000 to secure recruitment.

“Management wishes to state that these claims do not reflect the facts and are therefore false. Following the extension of the financial clearance in October 2025 for the onboarding of the 2024 applicants whose clearance expired, Management resumed the process of onboarding.

The process has resulted in the issuance of new letters in some cases. For instance, those who were recruited on fake letters had to be issued new appointment letters since they could not be onboarded with the fake letters. These new letters were issued free of charge,” GES stated in the statement.

GES has urged anybody with evidence of payment of an amount for recruitment and sale of teaching appointment to report the unscrupulous individual requesting the money to the security agencies.

“Therefore, anybody who has evidence, or who has been approached to pay any amount of money, should report the person requesting the money to the security agencies,” GES urged in the statement.

“The established procedures for recruitment of new applicants into the Service remain unchanged. When financial clearance is obtained for the main recruitment, an official announcement will be made to invite all qualified candidates to apply. The recruitment process is open, transparent, and free of charge,” it said.

GES’s comment comes after the organiser for the Coalition for Unemployed Trained Teachers, Paul Octhere Karikari, in an interview with a news outlet, said that some teachers have begun receiving appointment letters, some dated as far back as December 9, 2025, December 10, 2025, and December 11, 2025.

“We have not received any official communication from GES about recruitment, but we know some colleagues have already gotten appointment letters and are expected to start work on January 2026,” he said.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, the Coalition for Unemployed Trained Teachers organiser, Karikari, alleged that some recruits were asked to pay GH¢25,000 before receiving their letters.

“I don’t have that money, so I didn’t even bother. It means those without money are being left out—even though we all completed the same training,” he said.
