Ghana Education Service Declares September 25 as National CPD Day for Teachers

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has declared Friday, September 25, 2026, as a National Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Day for education sector staff across the country.

The decision forms part of the GES’ continuing efforts to support the professional development of staff, with this year’s programme focusing on the growing impact of artificial intelligence on teaching and learning.

The theme for the 2026 National CPD Day is “Assessment in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Empowering Teachers to Assess Learning.”

The announcement was contained in an official letter from the GES Headquarters dated September 15, 2026, and addressed to all Regional Directors.

GES directs regions to prepare for September 25 CPD Day

According to the letter, the GES has directed Regional Directors to ensure that the information reaches Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors, Regional Managers of Education Units and Heads of Schools within their respective regions.

The Service has also asked the regional leadership to coordinate the necessary arrangements to ensure full participation and the successful implementation of the CPD activities.

The directive means education managers across the regions are expected to begin preparations for the national professional development programme ahead of the September 25 date.

Artificial intelligence takes centre stage

The choice of artificial intelligence as the focus of the 2026 CPD Day places teacher assessment practices at the centre of the programme.

The official theme specifically focuses on how teachers can assess learning in an era where AI is increasingly relevant to education.
