GES reacts to Anloga E.P. Basic School bee attack that killed 2 students

The Ghana Education Service (GES), following a bee attack that occurred at Anloga E.P. Basic School in the Volta region on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, has expressed its deepest condolences to staff and students affected by the sting incident.

In a statement sighted by GhanaEducation.org, the management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) said the unfortunate incident resulted in injuries to some members of the school community.

It said “a total of thirty (30) persons were affected. These include five teachers who were stung while attempting to rescue learners, three school feeding cooks, and twenty- two learners, two of whom have sadly lost their lives.”

“With regard to victims who sustained varying degrees of injuries, Management wishes them a speedy recovery and assures them of the Service’s full support throughout the recovery process,” GES noted in the statement.

It expressed its sincere gratitude to the teachers, officials of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), and community members whose swift intervention helped to salvage the situation.

“The GES is working closely with the Ghana National Fire Service, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and the District Chief Executive to completely eliminate the habitat of the bees and to put measures in place to prevent any future occurrence,” the Service said in the press statement.

In other news, Authorities in the Anloga District have paid a condolence visit to the families of pupils affected by Wednesday’s tragic bee attack at the Anloga Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Basic School.

The delegation, led by Mr Francis Agbemadi, the Volta Regional Director of Education, included Mr Dominic Yao Dzanado, the Anloga District Director of Education and Madam Sandra Seyram Kpedor, the District Chief Executive (DCE).

Other members of the team were Mr Lawson Samlafo, a Regional Planning Officer; Mr Thywill Deynu, the Headteacher of Anloga EP Basic School; Mr Johnson Bokovi, Assembly Member for the area; executives of the School Management Committee (SMC), executives of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and other key stakeholders.
