The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a strong rebuttal to public criticisms and allegations surrounding the recently released 2025 WASSCE results, insisting that the performance of candidates is a credible reflection of their academic abilities.
In an official statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the GES said it had noted ongoing public debate over the results and was compelled to provide clarity to ensure balanced national discourse.
A significant portion of the statement addressed comments by Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, immediate past Minister of Education, who has reportedly attributed the performance of the 2025 candidates to what he called “unsupportive management practices” at GES. Management rejected this assertion as misleading and an attempt to “shift focus from his shortcomings in managing the examination process.”
The GES also dismissed claims by Dr. Adutwum that allowances for teachers had been cancelled. It emphasized that the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department had already explained the delayed November payments and that such delays should not be misconstrued as cancellations.
According to the statement, the 2025 WASSCE was conducted under heightened invigilation, strengthened supervision, and strict adherence to examination protocols nationwide. These measures, GES said, led to the apprehension of some students and staff involved in malpractice — evidence, it added, of its commitment to maintaining integrity.
“The outcome is a direct demonstration of the trend towards restoring the integrity of the examination process,” the statement stressed, describing the results as credible and reflective of students’ true abilities.
GES also reminded the public that prior to the exams, both the Service and the Ministry of Education had warned that any teacher or official found aiding examination malpractice would face severe sanctions — a directive it said was strictly enforced.
Looking ahead, the GES advised students to prepare adequately for the international version of the WASSCE, which Ghana will rejoin in May/June 2026 after ending the Ghana-only format introduced under the previous administration.

The Service reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding examination standards and pledged ongoing collaboration with heads of schools, teachers, students, parents, communities, civil society groups, and WAEC to enhance teaching, learning, and assessment integrity.
