GES to meet school heads over mandatory writing of lesson notes

GES to meet school heads over mandatory writing of lesson notes…Are teachers going to submit handwritten lesson notes after the meeting?
Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum says the Ghana Education Service (GES) at the appropriate time will engage heads of public schools and circuit supervisors to discuss issues of the writing of lesson notes by prospective teachers.
The impending meeting follows a question posed at the Minister for Education in an interview monitored by EducationWeb on whether is it compulsory for teachers to submit handwritten lesson notes to heads of school.
“Every teacher must make lesson notes and now teachers with the support of the TM1 laptop can type and print the notes. Teachers don’t need to submit only handwritten lesson notes,” the Minister in charge of Education said.
Speaking on PeaceFM’s Kokrokoo show on Monday, the Bosomtwe Member of Parliament said the Ghana Education Service (GES) soon will engage headteachers and circuit supervisors to consider printed lesson notes from teachers.
“In this 21st century, it is not obligatory for teachers to write lesson notes. The Management of the Ghana Education Service has put in place measures to ensure printed lesson notes are accepted by headteachers,” the Minister added.
In line with Honourable Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said the worst part of the teaching profession in the country is to write lesson notes into notebooks.
In his address at Ghana’s digitization drive under the theme “Transforming an economy through digitization: The Ghana story,” held at Ashesi University he said it is for this reason the government has provided teachers with laptops.
“We have provided 350,000 teachers with laptops under the “One teacher, One laptop policy.” For teachers, the writing of lesson notes into notebooks apart from being stressful is a time-consuming activity,” Bawumia stated at the event.
The Vice-President of the Republic added that “with the curriculum materials already installed on the laptops, the lesson notes can be downloaded onto the laptop to end the burdensome task of writing lesson notes.”
