GETFund funds 70% of One-Teacher-One-Laptop’ Initiative
The 70% portion of the cost of the One-Teacher-One-Laptop’ Initiative is to be funded via GETFund.
The GETFund funds 70% One-Teacher-One-Laptop’ Initiative as part of its commitment to supporting the government to realize its goals in the education sector.
A brief ceremony was held at St Mary’s SHS in Accra on September 3rd, 2021, during which GETFund’s Administrator Richard Ampofo Boadu joined Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and Minister for Education Yaw Osei Adutwum for the inauguration of the Ghana government’s “One Teacher, One Laptop” project.
The government through GETFUND is supporting 70% of the project while teachers are paying 30% of it, a cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service, with GETFund serving as its funding agency.
Through the One Teacher One Laptop’ Initiative, the government would provide laptops to some 350,000 teachers across the country. This move is aimed at equipping teachers with the requisite ICT tools and skills to prepare the next generation for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
A preloaded set of instructional materials and access to an E-Library with books suggested by the GES on various disciplines are planned to be included with each set of computers provided to teachers to make their work easy.
With free Wi-Fi available in 722 senior high schools around the country, students will have access to a virtually infinite number of resources on the internet. However, it is not clear how teachers in basic schools will have access to free Wi-Fi to access online materials via the computers.
GETFund funds 70% One-Teacher-One-Laptop, says it is an important move
GETFund is pleased with its contribution in realizing the government’s objective and is dedicated to investing in both physical infrastructure and programs such as these to improve teaching and learning results in the country.
