Ghana among world nations with best trained teachers – Adutwum
The Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum popularly known as Teaching Minister says he has keenly observed that teachers in the country are among the dedicated and best trained teachers in advanced countries in the world.
He made the comment when a delegation from the National Teaching Council and 43-year old Senior High School teacher, Mr Evans Odei who has been shortlisted for the top 10 Global Teachers Awards visited him on Wednesday.
The October 20, 2021 courtesy call led by the Registrar of the Teaching Council, Dr Christian Addae Poku, was aimed at introducing the 43-year old Achimota Senior High School mathematics teacher to the Minister for Education.
Motown’s very own, Mr Evans Odei last year was adjudged the overall best teacher for the Senior High School (SHS) category by the Ghana Teacher Prize (GTP) last year and among the top 10 for the Ghana Teacher Prize last year.
Speaking to the delegation, Mr Adutwum attributed the recent winning of international awards and nominations of some Ghanaian teachers by international agencies to the improvement of teachers welfare by the government.
He commending the Achimota teacher said, “congratulations, you have made the nation proud with this achievement” adding that government will support him as he goes into the final bit of the contest slated for 10th November 2021.
In his remarks, Mr Evans thanked the Education Minister and other stakeholders for their role in the development of education in the country promising that he will work extra hard so he would win the final award in November this year.
The Global Teachers Awards candidate and 2020 overall best SHS teacher further urged all teachers in the country to show more dedication towards their profession by going the extra mile by reading wide beyond the classroom.
The Registrar of the national Teaching Council (NTC), Dr Addae Poku, in a brief address similarly praised the Bosomtwe Member of Parliament for his unflinching support to the NTC and other education programmes in the country.
