Ghana To Write 2023 WASSCE Alone

Ghana will once again write the West Africa Secondary School Certificate Exams alone. Usually, four other Africa countries, including, Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Gambia write the WASSCE at the same time with Ghana.
This announcement was made known to the public after WAEC released a press statement on Wednesday, 15th March, 2023. The 2023 WASSCE will officially be conducted from Monday, 31st July, 2023 to Tuesday, 26th September, 2023.
“The examination, which will once again be a Ghana only version of the WASSCE will be conducted from Monday, 31st July to Tuesday, 26th September, 2023. The final timetable for the examination will be made available to all schools and will be on the WAEC website as well. Candidates are advised to contact their schools or visit the WAEC website for the accurate timetable. Candidates should refrain from downloading timetables from unverifiable websites“
This is not the first time that Ghana is conducting it’s exams separately. The reason is because, the other four-member countries of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) — Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone and The Gambia, have returned to the May/June calendar and had administered the WASSCE for their school candidates.
The four countries have had their academic calendars streamlined to enable them to write the examination in May/June, as Ghana sticks to the ‘new normal’ calendar occasioned.
Notwithstanding the late sitting, Ghanaian candidates will still compete for the National Distinction Award and the WAEC Excellence Award with candidates from those countries.
