Ghana Vice President Recovers

Ghana’s Vice President recovers, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has returned home following a full recovery from an illness that temporarily kept her out of the public eye. She arrived in Accra from London, where she had been receiving medical care, and was warmly welcomed at Kotoka International Airport by a host of dignitaries and loved ones.

Several senior government officials, family members, and religious leaders, including the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, were also present to greet her.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s health concerns first arose on Friday, March 28, 2025, when she fell ill and was admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) for initial treatment. Following medical advice, she took a formal three-week medical leave starting April 7. As a precaution, she traveled to the United Kingdom for further evaluation and recovery.

Speaking briefly upon her return, the Vice President expressed heartfelt gratitude to Ghanaians for their support and prayers during her absence. She extended her appreciation to the doctors and medical staff at UGMC for their professionalism and care. She also gave special thanks to President Mahama and his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, for their unwavering support and kindness throughout her recovery.
