DATA AD

The GhanaEducation.org brand marked its 4th anniversary since going live on November 19, 2020, at 27 seconds past 7:52 am. The education-focused site has diversified both within and beyond education news to ensure readers are fed a variety of news items about education. Over the years, the site has consistently strived to provide reliable education news at all times.

On November 19, 2024, as the site turned 4, we began a significant overhaul to position it as Ghana’s most reliable source for education news. This strategic decision and the associated initiatives are already making waves across the country and globally. The first strategic move is to give a new look and appeal to the site through its mobile version and a new logo which is share below.

From 2021 to mid-2023, GhanaEducation.org stood out as Ghana’s most reliable source for all education news, building a high level of trust locally and internationally.

This remarkable feat was achieved through the support of dedicated educators, bloggers, and professional journalists who contributed immensely to every piece of content published on the site.

Today, the site remains a key source of news on education (covering universities, SHS, basic schools, BECE, WASSCE, and more), tech, auto, sports, and general news items.

In 2022, GhanaEducation.org won the Africa Early Childhood Education Award (AECE) as the Media House of the Year, recognising its significant contributions to education reporting and the publication of content on early childhood issues over the years.

In the same year, the founder of GhanaEducation.org, Mr. Wisdom Hammond, was honoured as the Blogger of the Year at the prestigious 2022 National Industrious Awards, organised by the Noel Initiative. In 2023, he placed 2nd in the same competition.

With a refined focus and strategy, GhanaEducation.org has birthed four more education-focused sites and a parent organisation known as Education-News Consult. The organisation covers education news and provides test and assessment services such as BECE school and home mocks and WASSCE mock services, which have helped many students excel since 2022.

The new logo embodies the brand’s humble beginnings, success stories, and struggles. Despite a challenging period in 2023, when the site appeared to lose touch with its readers, strategic planning and investments in time, brainpower, and funds have set the stage for GhanaEducation.org to surpass its competitors in the coming year.

We are deeply grateful to our international partners, advertisers, and content marketing firms, who continue to believe in our vision of being a reliable source of education news in Ghana and across the continent.

We also celebrate all the content creators and journalists who have contributed to the success of this brand. Special mentions go to Michael Asare, Rexform (Rexbanks), George Okyere, Sheriff Abalo, and all the writers who once shared their insightful content on the site.

Reflecting on the journey, the founder of GhanaEducation.org shared a piece on how the site began. According to Mr. Wisdom Hammond, the will to start the site and the idea was hatched on the University of Professional Studies campus in early 2019 while he was working on his Master’s thesis. However, the launch was delayed due to the demands of completing his research paper before graduation.

Nothing happened until November 3, 2020, when Google imposed a penalty on another key site, threatening its revenue streams. To mitigate the impact on writers and readers, GhanaEducation.org was launched as a backup site. Unexpectedly, it rose quickly to become a must-visit portal for all education news.

Moral and Business Strategy Lessons From His Story and GhanaEducation.Org

  1. Turn Adversity into Opportunity:
The penalty from Google could have been a devastating setback, but it inspired the creation of GhanaEducation.org. This demonstrates the importance of responding to challenges with creativity and resilience.
  2. Proactive Problem-Solving:
Launching GhanaEducation.org as a backup site ensured continuity for both writers and readers, showcasing a proactive approach to crisis management. Businesses must always prepare for unforeseen challenges and have contingency plans in place.
  3. The Power of Delayed Action:
Although the idea was conceived in 2019, it was delayed until circumstances demanded action. This highlights that sometimes, the right timing is crucial for success. Being patient and strategic about when to act can yield better outcomes.
  4. Adaptability is Key:
The ability to pivot and adapt to changing circumstances was essential in transforming a backup site into a leading education portal. Businesses must remain flexible to stay relevant in dynamic environments.
  5. Vision and Execution Go Hand in Hand:
Having a vision is important, but executing it under challenging circumstances shows true entrepreneurial spirit. Leaders should align their vision with decisive actions to build something meaningful.
  6. Consistency and Value Delivery:
Despite starting as a backup, GhanaEducation.org grew to become a go-to platform because it consistently delivered value to its audience. Success often lies in staying committed to providing quality and reliability.
  7. Stakeholder Consideration:
The founder’s concern for writers and readers highlights the importance of prioritising stakeholder interests in business decisions. A business thrives when it creates solutions that benefit its ecosystem.
