There are couple of Ghanaian personalities who need to be appreciate for their Maximum contribution to the development of Science and Mathematics in Ghana and the world at whole.
He are top two Ghanaians who have distinctions in Mathematics and Science
1.Ewurama Addy was born on 7th April,1942 to Mr Joseph Cole and Angelina Kwofie in Nkawkaw in the eastern region of Ghana.
She attended St.Monica’s Secondary School for his “O”level and “A” level certificate from January 1956 to June 1960.She also attended Holy Girls School in Cape Coast and University of Penislavania
1.Mirriam Ewurama Addy the first quiz mistress of national Science and Maths Quiz which was first held in 1993.She was the quiz mistress from from 1993 to 2003 after Mrs Prophesor Elsie Effah Kaufman took over.
She was also the first woman Prophesor of science from the Premier University in Ghana that’s University of Ghana.
She is considered as one of the prominent Ghanaian women who has made a great impact in the history of science education in Ghana.
He died at the age of 72 at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in 2004.
2.Professor Francis Ampenyin Allotey was a Ghanaian mathematician physict.He was born on August 9,1932 at Saltpond in the Central region of Ghana then Gold Coast.
He is counted among Ghanaian personalities who have made great impact both locally and internationally
From a humble started in life, Professor Francis Kofi Ampenyin Allotey grew to make history as the first person in Ghana to achieve a PhD in Mathematical Sciences.
His tall list of achievements also includes making history as the founder of the KNUST Computer Centre and the first person to introduce computer education into Ghana.
He is a product of Princeton University
In 1973, Professor Allotey won a Prince Philip Gold Metal Award for his marvelous effort on soft X Ray spectroscopy.
With this,he developed the method “the Allotey Formalism”to determine in outer space
He is recognised as the father of Mathematics dues to his knowledge in Mathematics and other science filds
He held many other prestigious positions, including being the President of the Ghana Institute of Physics and the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was the founding president of the African Physical Society.
Ghana awarded him the Millennium Excellence Award in 2005, and dedicated a postage stamp to him. In 2009 he was awarded the Order of the Volta and posthumously awarded the Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah African Genius Award
He died of Natural cause on 2nd November,2017.
With due respect and honour the central government of Ghana accorded him a state barrier
His body was intered to his homeland, Saltpond.
