Girls in Mathematical Sciences Scholarship for Female SHS Students and Graduates Open

AIMS Ghana is accepting applications for the 2022/2023 Girls in Mathematical Sciences Program (GMSP). The GMSP is an exciting and challenging 9 months program created for bright, curious and creative female high school students to unlock their potential in the mathematical sciences. This is a brain child scholarship programmme of the The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences.

The goal is to mentor participants to pursue STEM careers at the highest level in research, training and industry.

The program is also designed to create a special class of students who will lead cutting edge research and innovation in the next few years.

Are there similar programs for girls who’ve recently graduated from SHS and are either waiting or preparing to enter the university?

It has been carefully structured to prevent interference in mainstream academics. The program operates on a hybrid model with an online and onsite session. The goal is to mentor participants to pursue STEM careers at the highest level in research, training and industry. The training is also designed to create a special class of students who will lead cutting edge research and innovation in the next few years. It is currently being implemented with support from the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Education under the UNESCO Category II arrangement.

Who qualifies to be a part of this program?

Any Ghanaian Senior High School (SHS) can nominate up to 5 female student(s) if she (or they) meet all the following requirements.

The nominated student(s):
• Must be a Ghanaian.
• Should be in SHS 1 or 2 or equivalent.
• Should have a passion for and strong ability in Mathematics as reflected in high school course grades and extracurricular activities.
• Should intend to pursue studies in STEM and/or Mathematical Sciences at the university level in the future, and at the time of application.
• Should be fluent in speaking and reading and should have good listening and writing skills.
