Government pays teachers 2022 Professional Allowance and other refunds

The government of Ghana has paid teachers 2022 Professional Allowance and other refunds due to teachers arising from over deductions over the past few months.

Details available to GhanaEducation.org shows that teachers’ Professional Allowance for the year has been paid and is part of the November 2022 salaries to be validated for teachers.
Apart from receiving their Cost of Living Allowance for November 2022, and their 2022 Professional Allowance of GHS1200.00 paid by the government through the Accountant General’s Department, the government has refunded an amount of GHS100.00 to teachers being NTC Teacher Licence Refund for only deserving teachers who were wrongly charged.
These payments come barely a week after teachers declared a strike which had to be called off after the NLC attained a court order against the strike.
In a related development, Teacher Unions have made 11 requests which, if not met may lead to an industrial strike in early 2023

Per the letter dated 14th November 2022, the unions outlined the 11 critical issues as follows.
- Refund of GHS44.55 to teachers arising out of the one teacher, one laptop.
- The payment of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) allowance to teachers.
- Progression to grade progression to the Grades Director II & I arising out of the scheme of service.
- Delayed payment of allowance to teachers in areas designated as deprived delay.
- Delay developing a scheme of service for staff of Ghana Education Service (GES) since the adoption of the public service manual and policy framework in 2015.
- Delay in Lower ranks promotion since 2015.
- Some teachers who were promoted or upgraded since 2015 have not been placed on their right scale.
- Reversal of the SHS semester system to trimester.
- Delay in the payment of responsibility allowance in 2018.
- Delay in the payment of car maintenance allowance since 2018
- Review of the collective agreement

However, the teacher unions are to receive any feedback from the National Labour Commission on the matter.
