Govt to introduce Edutourism to enhance education sector – Education Minister
Minister in Charge of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has hinted the central government plans to launch an ‘edutourism’ initiative aimed at attracting international students and educators to the country.
Speaking at an engagement in Accra on Sunday, he explained that the edutourism initiative will create opportunities for students worldwide to participate in academic programs while experiencing Ghana’s diverse heritage firsthand.
“We want to position Ghana as a premier destination for educational tourism,” he stated. “This initiative will not only enhance our educational offerings but also promote cultural exchange and economic growth,” Adutwum said.
The Education Minister indicated that the Edutourism innovative program will blend educational experiences with cultural immersion, allowing visitors to engage in Ghana’s rich history and vibrant culture.
Yaw Osei Adutwum explained that participants would not only gain academic experience but also have the chance to connect with Ghanaian traditions, customs, and historical landmarks.
According to Dr Adutwum, the edutourism programme reflects the government’s commitment to promoting Ghana as a hub for educational excellence and cultural enrichment.
He expressed optimism that the initiative would foster greater international partnerships in education while supporting tourism and showcasing Ghana’s diverse heritage on a global platform.
The Minister in Charge of Education emphasized that in order to make this a reality, Ghanaians should retain the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in the upcoming general election scheduled for December 7, 2024,
