Ghana’s STEM Education Schools: Gov’t to recruit Headmasters – Education Minister

STEM education has gained prominence globally and countries such as Ghana need to catch up with this important subject matter; Ghana’s STEM Education Schools are nearing completion according to The Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Adutwum.
The term STEM education as a transformation step in the education sector lays emphasis on teaching meaningful skills at an early age by giving more attention to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
Ghana’s STEM Education Schools
The Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, has disclosed that the Ghana government would from August 2021 start the recruitment of Heads of Schools for what he calls the STEM Schools. According to him, Ghana’s STEM Schools would start operating in the 2021/2022 academic year. He said.

During his interview on JoyNews‘ Joy Prime channel, Dr. Yaw Adutwum said Ghana’s STEM Schools are nearing completion and would be ready by July 2021.
“Most of them are on track to finish by July, if you look at Abomoso I am told that maybe by May it will be done,”.
“But what we are going to do is to frontload the Management aspect of it, begin to recruit Headmasters so by August every school will have a Headmaster,” the Education Minister disclosed to the show host Mr. Daniel Dadzie.
He furthered that, “Every one of these schools has 12 science laboratory, ICT laboratory and a library fully stocked with books, so all chemical supplies and equipment for teaching and learning will be ready before the school reopen,”

STEM education has immense benefits for the learner and the future human resource of the nation. STEM education helps improve the creativity of learners. They learn to think outside the box because of the content it introduces them to.
Again, learners build the team mentality and see the need to always collaborate.
Furthermore, learners’ communication skills are enhanced and critical thinking becomes part of their way of resolving issues that confront them.
Hence, STEM education is the way to go, and Ghana must embrace it now.
