Has E-Levy been cancelled? The excitements and facts checked
Has E-Levy been cancelled per the news making rounds? When exactly was it cancelled? It seems the government is listening to Ghanaians now but let us do a fact checking now before we conclude and join the excitment.
Since yesterday, many Ghanaians have been sharing videos and posts suggesting that the NPP government has canceled the infamous e-levy on all Momo transactions. The e-levy is a nuisance tax, as is the COVID-19 levy, both of which were imposed on Ghanaians by the NPP government. News of its removal or suspension on Momo transfers seems to have brought immense joy to the millions of Ghanaians taxed by the government via this burdensome levy.
During the 2024 election campaigns, the NDC emphatically promised to remove this tax, as well as the betting tax and the COVID levy imposed on ordinary Ghanaians.
Hearing the question, “Has the E-Levy been canceled?” sent many into moments of joy and relief—something Ghanaians had long called for even before the government passed the law. Videos claiming its removal have also surfaced on TikTok, with friends confirming seeing such posts. To verify the truth of these claims, we decided to investigate.
Has the E-Levy been canceled? Excitement vs. Fact-checking
A transfer of GHS350 was made today, and a tax of GHS3.11 was charged. Another transfer of GHS303 was made, and a tax of GHS2.03 was charged. Clearly, the e-levy is still active, monitoring every transaction and taxing every attempt you make to spend your Momo or use it for a service.

- You invest it, they tax it.
- You drive it, they tax it.
