How Ghana Black Satellite won the Under 20 FIFA World Cup On October 16, 2009
Today marks exactly 14 years since the National Under-20 team, the Black Satellite, won the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Egypt in 2009.
Winning the World Cup by beating the Brazilians 4-3 on penalties became a world record for an African country to win an international trophy.
It was their third appearance at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, and they won it successfully with Sellas Tetteh as the head coach and Andre Dede Ayew as the captain.
On that day, the young stars were eager and passionate to win the trophy since they had gone unbeaten by defeating Cameroon, Austria, and Panama in the group stage and proceeded to beat South Korea in the round of 16, South Korea in the quarterfinals, and Hungary in the semi-finals.
The final match was held at the Estadio Internacional de Cairo, which was filled with 67,814 football lovers.
