Hundreds Of Parents And Children Troop GNAT Hall In Accra For School Placement

Following the release of the 2023 SHS Placement for 2022 BECE graduates, several students seem to have issues with their placement. 538,399 candidates are expected to be placed in various senior high schools and TVET institutions in the country.

News coming in indicates that hundreds of parents and children have lined up at the GNAT Hall in Accra due to some school placement issues. Most of these issues have to deal with persons who would have to do self placement.

Following the release of the school placement, no student has been able to do self placement. This is because, there are no options of schools for students to select from. This has made some 165,601 candidates worried.

Ghana Education Service has given out the location of some help centers in each region where students and parents can go to for assistance. It is also expected that the self placement portal will be fully functional in no time.

According to the academic calendar of the Ghana Education Service, all 2022 BECE graduates who have been placed in various senior high schools are expected to be in the school they have been placed on Monday, 20th February, 2023 to start the registration.

According to GES, students must send the following documents to the SHS they have been placed for admission process to commence;

  • Placement form
  • Enrollment form – This form must be filled completely. Details of the student must be filled correctly. Portion which entails the head teacher of the previous school(JHS) or a pastor to fill must also be filled before sending it to the SHS for admission. However, the name of the SHS/TVET head teacher must be left blank.
  • BECE results/certificate
  • Passport size picture. You can choose to attach this to the placement form.
  • Students must also know the digital address of their houses, hometown, place of birth, information about guardians or parents and students’ medical conditions.

If a student fails to submit any of the above listed documents on the day of admission, the school will fail to admit such student. Also registration process is completely free.

The Exact Date 2022 BECE Graduates Will Go To SHS According To The Academic Calendar

Already, the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service have served notice to the public avoid engaging persons who promise to change the schools of BECE graduates. The school placement is being released based on the aggregate each student attained in their BECE results.

In a press conference on Wednesday, the director revealed that the 2023 school placement has been released.

According to him, out of 547,329 registered candidates, 538,399 candidates qualified for placement. This clearly means that a total of 8,930 candidates were not placed in any senior high school or any TVET institution in the country. These are likely to be the candidates who obtained grade 9 in English or mathematics or in most subjects.

For this reason, they cannot start their secondary Education this year. If they want to access free SHS that will be in 2024 after they have retake the BECE as a private BECE candidate and excel before they can go to school.
