Is GES Promotion Portal “RESET” Political? Teachers Call for An Edit Button

In a move to enhance its online systems, the Ghana Education Service (GES) recently introduced a “RESET” feature on the 2025 Promotion Portal. The opting for a RESET Button it self is problematic as it seems to emanate from the NDS’s RESET agenda which contributed to its 2024 election message and victory.
This development, (the intorduction of the RESET button) while appreciated, has sparked a crucial conversation among teachers on the GES’s Facebook page which the GES has responsed to on the page as sighted by Ghana Education News portal.
As the GES beleives in Continous Professional Development, it must embrace the edit button in the registration process rather than a RESET button.
While the teachers have acknowledge the step forward they are collectively calling for a more efficient tool: an “EDIT” button.
While both features aim to help users correct mistakes, they function in fundamentally different ways. Understanding this difference is key to building truly modern and user-friendly portals for our hardworking teachers.
Kofi Owusu called on the GES to introduce an Edit button instead. This is what he said “Ghana Education Service what must be added is an edit button not a reset of the entire application done earlier. Give applicants the opportunity to edit when they realise a mistake has been done.”
Already, teachers are leaving positive reviews about the portal now.
Lucky Agudah Yaw reacting to the introduction of the RESET button said “This is the GES we all want. I think the IT team is doing a great job. I’ve been able to submit my application successfully. Thank you”·
“From the bottom of my heart, Ghana Education Service , I truly believe that adding promotions, conversion and upgrading to the GESMIS dashboard would be a game-changer. It would save so much time and frustration, and make the process so much smoother for everyone involved. I can only imagine how relieved teachers would be to have a more efficient and streamlined process. ” This is what King Kow Bentum had to say about the portal.

The “RESET” Button
The new RESET button, as explained by the GES, allows an applicant to completely wipe out a previous submission and start the entire process from scratch. If you make a mistake—whether it’s a small typo in your name or an incorrect document upload—your only option is to delete everything and begin again.
Think of it this way: Imagine you’ve carefully written a 10-page essay. On page eight, you notice a single spelling error. The RESET button is the equivalent of being forced to throw the entire 10-page essay into a fire and start over with a blank piece of paper.
The GES is getting alot of positive reviews and the service is also responding to comments on its Facebook page which is a positive feedback worth mentining as it drawa the leadership of the service to the poeple. Each response answers and clarifies issues for a lot to educators.
While the RESET button introduced gets the job done eventually, it’s soemwhat inefficient, time-consuming, and can be incredibly frustrating. It doesn’t respect the time and effort you’ve already invested since by clicking it, you will have to start the entire process all over again.

The “EDIT” Button
What teachers are asking for is an EDIT button. This function would allow them to go back into their submitted or saved application, select the specific field with the error, correct it, and save the changes without affecting any of the other information.
Let’s use the same essay analogy: With an EDIT button, you would simply take out your pen, neatly correct the spelling mistake on page eight, and the other nine and a half pages would remain perfectly intact. The problem is solved in seconds.
This approach is precise, quick, and intelligent. It is the standard for virtually every modern online platform, from your social media profile to your online banking details.
Why “EDIT” is the Superior Choice for a Modern GES
The call for an “EDIT” function isn’t just about convenience; it’s about building a better, more respectful digital ecosystem for educators.
- It Saves Precious Time: Teachers are among the nation’s busiest professionals. Forcing them to re-enter pages of data to correct one small mistake is a poor use of their valuable time.
- It Reduces New Errors: The more data you have to re-enter, the higher the chance of introducing a new mistake. An EDIT button isolates the correction, minimizing this risk.
- It Boosts User Confidence: A system with an EDIT function feels more forgiving and professional. It empowers the user, telling them, “It’s okay to make a mistake; you can easily fix it.” This reduces anxiety and makes the portal more approachable.
- It Aligns with Modern Standards: For the GES to be seen as a digitally progressive institution, its portals must meet the basic expectations of 21st-century users. An EDIT button is a fundamental part of that.

While the introduction of the RESET button shows a willingness to listen to feedback, it’s a partial solution. To truly create a seamless and efficient process, the GES should heed the call of its teachers.
While a nationwide “RESET” was the political promise, in the world of digital services, it is targeted “EDITS” and continuous improvements that truly deliver progress.
