Kinbu SHS wins Fidelity Bank/Prince’s Trust International Enterprise Challenge
Winner of the 2022–23 Fidelity Bank and Prince’s Trust International Enterprise Challenge is the Kinbu Senior High School in Accra.
In order to replace the usage of charcoal and wood as a cooking fuel, the school, which had an all-female team, proposed an inventive green business proposal that included converting the waste palm kernel produced during the production of palm oil into briquettes.
The smokeless, compact, and healthy alternative to conventional cooking fuel had no negative effects on people’s health.
In order to begin the process of establishing their firm and to develop their business concept into a workable commercial organization, the school has consequently received seed money from Fidelity Bank.
The Prince’s Trust International (PTI), in collaboration with Fidelity Bank Ghana and Environment 360, organized the Challenge.
The program seeks to foster an entrepreneurial spirit and provide young people with the necessary knowledge and skills to manage a business.
By using their artistic talents to positively influence their neighborhood, it also aims to inspire youth to be socially aware and responsible.
The program also aims to boost participants’ self-esteem and provide knowledgeable counsel so they may make well-informed choices about their future.
Participants learn the fundamentals of sustainable development and the significance of taking into account both profit and environmental effects via the incorporation of climate literacy modules.
Young participants study the steps of starting and operating a company with the help of business mentors while playing a digital business simulation game.
Mr. Edward Effah, the founder of Fidelity Bank, spoke at the ceremony and expressed his satisfaction with the students’ devotion and financial acumen.
In light of the concepts put out by our pupils today, he said, “Ghana, indeed, has a bright future.”
The capacity of these young people to produce ecologically safe green company concepts and the confidence with which they presented these ideas is pretty impressive, said Mr. Effah, a member of the Prince’s Trust International Africa Advisory Board.
In all, 25 teams competed in the 2022/23 iteration of the program, with five teams ultimately making it to the finals.
The five finalists were then given four sessions with a green business mentor to enable each team to fine-tune their company concepts with specific attention to a cost and profit structure, as well as successful sales presentation methods ahead of the final event.
Team Mervs from Kinbu SHS, Team Doyen from Sacred Heart SHS, Teams Texco and Flow from His Majesty’s SHS, and Team Phoenix from Brainy Brain SHS are the five teams.
Mr. Eric Frempong Amponsah, Marketing Manager at Fidelity Bank, said that education remained a crucial pillar for the bank as it sought to assist society via social impact programs.
“Fidelity Bank is happy to collaborate with Prince’s Trust International on this initiative, and we look forward to future projects,” he said.
King Charles III of England, previously the Prince of Wales, established the Prince’s Trust International to address the worldwide challenge of young unemployment.
The company collaborates with local partners across 18 countries to implement employment, education, and entrepreneurial projects, including the Enterprise Challenge.
Fidelity Bank is a Ghanaian bank with 75 locations around the country that presently serves about two million clients.
Fidelity Asia Bank Limited, a fully owned subsidiary in Malaysia, and Fidelity Securities Limited, an asset management organization, are the bank’s two subsidiaries.
