Kufuor Caught Off Guard for Surprise Speech at Bawumia ‘s Lecture, Claims Adakabre
In a revelation that has stirred the political scene, Lawyer Adakabre Frimpong Manso, a notable figure and morning show host on Neat FM, has brought to light the circumstances under which former President John Agyekum Kufuor found himself delivering an impromptu speech at Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s lecture held on February 7, 2024, at the UPSA auditorium.
According to Adakabre, who has also been associated with the Ghana Freedom Party as a one-time running mate to its founder, Akua Donkor, the former president was seemingly taken by surprise with a speaking request at the event. Originally, President Kufuor had no plans to address the gathering as his schedule was to partake in the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Sagrenti War in Kumasi.
The plot thickened when, as Adakabre narrated on his radio show on February 15, 2024, Vice President Bawumia personally reached out to Kufuor, extending an invitation to the lecture.
This gesture, born out of respect and admiration, led Kufuor to alter his plans in favor of attending Bawumia’s lecture. However, the unforeseen twist came when he was prompted to speak at the event, a request that was not originally on the cards.
Adakabre’s commentary highlighted the spontaneity of Kufuor’s speech, pointing out that his remarks were his own and not reflective of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) stance, despite Bawumia’s position as the party’s flagbearer. This incident, he argued, should caution against drawing political conclusions from Kufuor’s unexpected participation and speech at the lecture.
Adding another layer to the discussion, Adakabre touched upon the upcoming J.A. Kufuor Cup, a football match set to honor the former president’s legacy and celebrate his 85th birthday.
The match, featuring Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, February 18, 2024, symbolizes the respect and admiration Kufuor commands across various spheres.
This incident, as narrated by Adakabre, underscores the complex dynamics within Ghana’s political landscape, where respect for elder statesmen intersects with contemporary political narratives.
It also serves as a reminder of the personal loyalties and unexpected moments that can shape public perception and political discourse in unexpected ways.
