Prof Jobson Mitchual inducted as 5th Vice Chancellor of UEW

On April 21, the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), celebrated the formal investiture of Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual as its 5th Vice-Chancellor.
The ceremony, held at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre on the North Campus, was attended by a distinguished audience that included governing and faculty members of UEW, vice-chancellors from sister universities, and members of the wider university community.
Prof. Mitchual officially assumed his role on October 1, 2023, succeeding Prof. Mawutor Avoke.
With over two decades of experience in academia, Prof. Mitchual previously served as the Acting Vice-Chancellor and Acting Dean of the School of Graduate Studies at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skill Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED).
He is renowned for his expertise in Wood Science and Technology, a field where he has made significant contributions to wood processing, preservation, and safety.
Educated at Kwame Nkrumah University (KNUST), Prof. Mitchual earned a Ph.D. in Wood Science and Technology in 2014, an MSc in Wood Technology and Management in 2005, and a BSc in Agriculture Engineering in 1993.

His role as an external assessor for wood science programs, coupled with memberships in several prestigious international associations, underscores his influence and commitment to advancing his field.
The investiture was presided over by Neenyi Ghartey VII, Chancellor of UEW and Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Area, with notable attendees such as Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Deputy Minister for Education, and Nana Ofori Ansah I, Chairman of the UEW Council.
The ceremony featured a faith affirmation led by Rev. Dr. Stephen Yenusom Wengam of the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana, emphasizing the new Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to enhancing academic standards and moral education at UEW.
In his address, Prof. Mitchual expressed gratitude to God, President Akufo-Addo, and various stakeholders who supported his journey to this prestigious position. He pledged to collaborate closely with all members of the university to foster growth and prosperity.
The event not only marked a new chapter for UEW but also set a collaborative tone for the future, aiming for a transformative era under Prof. Mitchual’s leadership.
