Lady Who Offers Free Classes To Akosombo Displaced Children Receives Schorlarship And Laptop
Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has promised a full college scholarship to one Gertrude, who has been offering free tuition to students affected by the Akosombo dam spillage.
Gertrude also got a laptop from Mr Ablakwa on one surprise visit.
In a Twitter post on October 28, the North Tongu MP wrote “the young lady “inspiring” Gertrude for prioritizing the future of the children affected above her comfort despite being affected by the flood.
“She is the first to put her own displacement misery aside and organize free classes for kids living with her in the Mepe St. Kizito Camp after they were all displaced by the VRA-induced floods,” he composed.
He added: “This crisis has revealed how our nation is blessed with many awesome angels.”

Gertrude took it upon herself to teach these displaced kids as they weren’t able to attend any school because of the flood. She described this act as passion driven and the kids also love her so much. She has shown an act of compassion which needs to be emulated by most citizens of the country.
Many inhabitants along the Lower Volta Basin have witnessed their homes and farmlands lowered by floods brought about by the spillage of the Akosombo dam by the Volta River Authority (VRA).

Communities like Battor, Tefle, Mepe, Sogakope, Adidome, and Anlo have been fully submerged. Many families have lost their valuable properties and livelihood.
