shop owners Face Consequences for Defying Closure Order During Late Ga Manye ‘s Funeral Rites
In a solemn tribute to honor the late Queen Mother of the Ga State, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, the Ga Traditional Council imposed restrictions on commercial activities in the Greater Accra region on Saturday, October 28. However, not all traders adhered to this directive, and some had to face the consequences of their actions.
A viral video shared on various platforms showcased a group of traditional watchmen and women from the Ga State, taking matters into their own hands. They were seen inflicting damage on the wares of a defiant shop owner who had chosen to defy the closure order.
In the video, one of the traditional watchmen expressed their frustration, saying, “They gave you guys three days to open your shops but said you couldn’t open the shop for just a single day, yet you could not abide by this directive! You have opened your shop! What is wrong with you people and your minds?”
Not stopping at damage to the shop’s contents, these watchmen and women also confiscated the remaining items and loaded them into a nearby vehicle.
This action was a direct response to the directive issued by the Ga Traditional Council to cease all commercial activities as a mark of respect and tribute to the late Queen of the Ga State, Naa Dedei Omaedru III.
The closure of businesses and commercial activities not only demonstrated respect for the late Queen but also resulted in a striking transformation of the Central Business District of Accra and various parts of the Greater Accra Region. The streets were left deserted, devoid of the usual hustle and bustle, as residents and traders paused to pay their respects to the late Ga Manye.
This incident serves as a reminder of the significance of cultural traditions and customs within communities. The Ga Traditional Council’s directive, though met with resistance by some, underscores the importance of respecting and upholding the values and customs that bind a society together. It is a testament to the deep reverence that the Ga people hold for their late Queen Mother, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, and their commitment to honoring her memory, even at the cost of temporarily disrupting their daily commercial activities.
