At a recent alumni and industry dinner in Accra, Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Diana Asonaba Dapaah, called on graduates of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Law School to embody and propagate the school’s core values of excellence, integrity, and service in their respective communities.

Speaking at the event themed “Back to the Future: Celebrating the Legacy of our Alma Mater, Reliving Memories, Reconnecting Tomorrow,” Mrs. Dapaah highlighted the importance of these values in making meaningful societal contributions.

The gathering aimed to reconnect alumni and strengthen networks, a key component of ongoing community building beyond the classroom.

On this occasion, the school also initiated an endowment fund to support financially disadvantaged students, starting with a significant donation from Humphrey Williams, Group Chairman of Oswal Investment Ltd.

Mrs. Dapaah praised the alumni for their crucial roles in elevating UPSA to global prominence. She encouraged them to continue leveraging their positions of influence to “brighten the corners” where they reside and proudly represent their alma mater.

The event also served as a platform for reaffirming commitments to the law school, emphasizing the broader educational experience that extends beyond academic instruction.

Dean of the School, Professor Ernest Abotsi, underscored the achievements of UPSA law graduates and the value of sustained alumni engagement through structured programs.

Highlighting challenges commonly faced in alumni relations, UPSA Global Alumni President Francis Dadzie criticized the poor structure of alumni programs across many African universities, often hindered by understaffing and unclear objectives.

However, he noted that UPSA is proactively addressing these issues by being the first to establish a dedicated alumni office for its law faculty, setting a precedent for other departments and universities across Africa.

This proactive approach by UPSA demonstrates a commitment to fostering long-lasting relationships with its graduates, ensuring that they remain connected and continue to contribute to the university’s legacy and development.
