Three teenagers arrested for allegedly gang-defiling fellow student
Three male teenagers, ages 15 to 17, have been arrested by the police on suspicion of gang-defiling a female student at Aboabo Junior High School in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The accused were taken into custody by the police on January 27, 2024, after which they appeared twice before the Mampong Magistrate Court to be prosecuted for their alleged acts.
The case had shocked the community and sparked worries about the security and welfare of pupils at educational facilities.
According to Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (29), it is illegal for anyone, regardless of gender, to have sexual relations with a child, either with or without that kid’s consent.
This includes knowing anything about an individual’s natural or unnatural knowledge of a child who is younger than sixteen.
The poignant case has spurred discussion on how important it is to teach young people about these kinds of offenses and the repercussions of their acts.
The community is debating the intricacies of this sad incident and its long-term effects as the trial moves on.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Mahmoud E.K. Nantomah, the Project Coordinator of Plan International Ghana’s “Be Smart, Learn, and Stay Protected,” stated that one of the suspects was the victim’s classmate and the other accused were dropouts.
He clarified that the victim, who lived with her 63-year-old grandfather, had borrowed his book in the evening from her friend, one of the suspects’ homes, together with her younger sister.
He claimed that she had become weary of waiting for her buddy, the suspect, to get home after getting takeout and had made the decision to go for a stroll when she encountered the suspects.

While they were walking back to the house with the two buddies, Mr. Nantomah said that the other two suspects made an attempt to speak with the victim, but she declined.
He claimed, “But they had intended to attack her, so they lifted her and carried her to a nearby bush, where one of the boys fingered her and two of the boys raped her one after the other.”
The attackers had firmly shut the victim’s mouth while she struggled back, trying to create enough noise to attract attention and signal for aid.
But as she struggled, the victim was able to shout for help, and she was saved by a couple who happened to be nearby.
They immediately took her to the boys’ homes and, finally, to the police station, where a report was made for the suspects’ arrest, according to Mr. Nantomah.
The victim’s mother is reportedly suffering from a mental condition, and her father, who lives in Ashaiman, is paralyzed after suffering a stroke. The victim’s parents reportedly had unusual health problems.
Mr. Nantomah stated that the organization was devoted to seeing that justice was served because of the victim’s and her sibling’s vulnerability in society as a result of their living circumstances.
