The Ashanti Area of Ghana has six public Category A schools scattered around the region.

Opoku Ware Senior High School
Opoku Ware Senior High School is a senior high school in Opoku, Ghana.
The Gold Coast Government created Opoku Ware Senior High School, originally known as Yaa Asantewaa College, in response to a request from the Catholic Church in the Ashanti Region to give an alternative to journeying to St. Augustine’s College in Cape Coast for the education of young men.
In February 1952, the Rev. Fr. Peter Burgess interviewed potential pupils and enrolled 60 boys to the school.

T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School
The Potsin T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School is situated in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, near Winneba, and serves students in grades 7 through 12. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission of Ghana established the school in 1972 as part of the Nusrat Jahan (Service to Humanity) Scheme, and it has served the community ever since. However, in 1984, it was classified as a government-assisted school.

- Abdul Wahab Adam, the national president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana.

- Habiba Atta Forson is a football administrator who is also the founder of Fabulous Ladies FC and a member of the GFA executive committee.
- Gyakie is a performer in the music industry.
- Augustine Collins Ntim – a member of Parliament in the Ghanaian Parliament (for the Offinso North Parliament Constituency)
- Atsu Nyamadi is a Ghanaian athlete who competes in track and field.
- Sandra Owusu-Ansah is a Ghanaian footballer who plays for the Ghana women’s national soccer team.
- Strongman (Ghanaian Rapper) is a hip-hop artist who resides in Ghana.
- Joshua Owusu, gold medalist at the 1974 Commonwealth Games in the United Kingdom.
- Mariama Owusu is an active justice of the Ghanaian Supreme Court (from 2019 to the present).
- Blakk Rasta (born Abubakar Ahmed) is a reggae musician and radio host who was born in Kingston, Jamaica.
Yaa Asantewaa Senior Girl’s High School
It was created in 1961 as part of the fast educational development program pioneered by Ghana’s first President after independence, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and is today known as Yaa Asantewaa Girls Senior High School (YAGSHS). The school originally opened its doors to seventy pupils in 1960.
Yaa Asantewaa, a notable historical revolutionary heroine and Queen-mother of Ejisu in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, was honored with the school’s name. In the year 1900, this little, slim woman heroically led the Ashanti Kings in a fight against British colonialists in Ghana.
For more than five decades, the school has produced thousands of well-educated and well-formed women who have gone on to assume positions of responsibility in government, administration, and business.
Prempeh Senior High School
Prempeh College is a public secondary boarding school for boys that is situated in Kumasi, the capital city of Ghana’s Ashanti Region.
The school was founded in 1949 as a result of a partnership between Asanteman traditional authority, the British Colonial Government, the Methodist Church Ghana, and the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
The school is named after Ashanti King Sir Osei Tutu Agyeman Prempeh II, who donated the land on which it was erected. It was designed in the manner of Eton College in England, which served as the school’s inspiration.
In 2004, the institution ranked first in matriculation at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, with 441 students accepted, and second in 2012, with 296 students enrolled.
With 441 pupils enrolled in 2004 and 296 students admitted in 2012, it is generally recognized as one of Ghana’s top secondary schools.
The school achieved a new record by winning the National Robotics Championships five times between 2013 and 2021. Prempeh College received the Toyota Innovation Award at the 2016 International Robofest World Championships in Michigan, United States.
St. Louis High School, Kumasi
St. Louis Senior High Institution, a Ghanaian educational school for girls, is situated in the Oduom neighborhood of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of the nation and was founded in 1952 by the St. Louis Sisters.
Kumasi High School
Kumasi High School, often known as KUHIS, is a senior high school for boys in Ghana’s Ashanti region. Kumasi is the location. S. K. Amoah was the impetus for its establishment in 1962. The pupils are known as “Mmerantee,” which translates to “gentlemen.”
