Mahama Leads in Survey of Zongos Ahead of 2024 Ghana Presidential Election
A recent survey conducted by Global Info Analytics, a reliable and independent opinion research company in Ghana, has revealed that former President John Mahama holds a commanding lead among voters in constituencies with significant Zongo communities. The survey, which was carried out from November 23 to 28, 2023, among a sample size of 2,745 respondents with a confidence level of 99% and a margin of error of ±2.41%, found that Mahama garnered 73.1% of the support, while his main contenders, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Alan Kyeremanten, secured 21.2% and 2.5% respectively.
Mahama Leads in Survey of Zongo Communities Ahead of 2024 Ghana Presidential Election
Constituencies with significant Zongo communities polling report (Madina, Ashaiman, Ablekuma Central, Ayawaso East, Ayawaso North, Ayawaso Central, Asawase):
John Mahama 73.1%
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, 21.2%
Alan Kyeremanten, 2.5%
Sample size: 2,745
Confidence level: 99%
Margin of error: ±2.41%
Interviews were carried out from 23rd-28th November 2023
The survey’s findings suggest that Mahama maintains strong support among Zongo communities, which have historically played a crucial role in Ghanaian elections. This support is likely attributed to Mahama’s policies and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Zongo residents, including the establishment of the Zongo Development Fund and the implementation of the Zongo and Inner-City Development Program.
While Mahama’s lead is significant, it is important to note that the survey was conducted in constituencies with a high concentration of Zongo communities. It remains to be seen whether Mahama can maintain this lead in other parts of the country, particularly in rural areas where support for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) may be stronger.

The survey results underscore the importance of Zongo communities in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. Both major parties will need to effectively engage with Zongo voters if they want to secure their support and ultimately win the election.
