Make sure you don’t enter 2022 with your poor administration – GES told

Responding to the Festive Greetings of the Ghana Education Service on its official Facebook page, a commentator left the message “Many Happy returns. But make sure u don’t enter 2022 with ur poor administration.”
The call seemed to have resonated with many commentators who reacted to the response left on the official page of the managers of pre-tertiary education.
2021 has been several lapses in the administration of education in Ghana. The last set of poor administrative plans and actions and programmes of the GES include the poorly planned and executed maiden edition of the National Standardized Test for basic four pupils held on 17th December 2021 and (the deduction of GHS509, GHS100, and reduced pay for some employees) which left many teachers unhappy.
Teachers who commented on the post left very sad comments that summed up the performance of the GES in 2022 and projected the expectations of teachers in 2022.
a. Some teachers feel the GES shortchanged educators through the One Teacher One Laptop, the deductions that hit their salaries in November and December.
b. The inability of the GES to make known the calendar for the next term and semester for Basic schools and Senior High Schools.
c. The GESs failure to promote junior ranks in the year after years of service.
d. The sacking of teachers (Teacher Kwadzo) also came to light as teachers reacted to the Merry Christmas post by the GES.
Check some of the messages left by teachers to prove their disappointment in the GES in 2021
Below are some of the views and comments sampled by Ghana Education News from the GES official Facebok page.
- Your staff don’t have money for Xmas celebration… December payment is very disastrous as teachers were shortchanged…
- Thank you GES. BUT we still don’t know the official date basic schools are reopening.
- Just one wish for the coming year: “May GES recognize the hard work, efforts, and suffering of its staff on lower ranks and promote them to their deserving ranks after years of service and qualification”
- Some of us are in sad mood whiles we are celebrating Christmas just because we the junior ranks, were denied our promotion to Snr Supt 1 for Two Years now. (2016 year group) .May God fight for us.
- What happiness? After you went sacking people? You join hands with our foolish teacher unions leaders to steal our monies, you then sat down to watch the controller not to pay as our small 4 %. Merry Christmas to your families kk.
- Pls don’t let us go to school for 6 months in 2022
- Thanks but you need to change your ways. Director General Of Education was eager to extend the vacation date of Junior High Schools in Ghana. Did you hear the Director General Of Education talking when teachers were underpaid in December? This tells you that Leaders always want their subordinates to work without seeking their welfare. Poor Ghana Education Service.
- Merry Christmas to you also. The current state of Basic school system should be known and made clear to everyone in the educational system.
- The minister together with his deputy and also a professor of all people has really destroyed the educational system in Ghana. You said JHS 1 should go by a new curriculum, whiles JHS 2 and 3 should continue with the old curriculum. Later you people change your mind for the JHS 1 to go back and use the old curriculum. What happens? Are the JHS 1 going to continue with your so call new curriculum or what? Sit down and plan the educational system in Ghana well.
- Next year we don’t hear do this or do that or stop that. The educational system in Ghana should meet the needs of our time and in the end, the child should come out with entrepreneurial skills to enable the child to earn a living.
- Make sure textbooks are ready before any reopening date. We won’t use our phones for research again….we don’t take research allowance. Lectures in Universities and Tutors in Colleges take research allowance but the basic school teacher is being asked to do research without any allowance. The distribution of Laptops alone is not enough, data is expensive.
Knowledge, experience, and ideas needed to move the GES forward and make it more efficient and effective are not the preserve of those at the top. If the GES would be more responsive to the needs of many teachers and deal with issues well, it will become one perfect public institution teachers and all stakeholders can be proud of. One step toward this is to take suggestions and recommendations of stakeholders seriously. Will the GES take the advice? , But make sure u don’t enter 2022 with ur poor administration.” serious? 2022 has the answers.
