MoE denies claim of minimal errors in 2024 BECE students SHS selection
The Ministry of Education has urged the public to disregard the claim that the Ghana Education Service has recorded a few mistakes by students in the Senior High School (SHS) selection procedures for this year’s computer school placement.
The Ministry’s comment comes after a purported statement signed by the spokeswoman for the Ghana Education Service, Cassandra Twum-Ampofo said the mistakes have led to the failure to identify the status of placement of some students.
In the statement, the Public Relations Officer for the Ministry in Charge of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng described fake said out of the total number of 569,095 results received from WAEC, 451,797 candidates qualified to be placed.
It urged students and parents to contact a WhatsApp number to confirm their results status and complete the Self-Placement module to select from available schools before the deadline of the computerized school selection and placement system for senior high schools.
The fake statement also said some ten thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight papers have been withheld due to examination malpractices detected in the ongoing marking of Basic Education Certificate Examination papers.
A total of 569,095 candidates made up of 282,648 males and 286,447 females from 19,506 private and public Junior High Schools participated in the BECE for School which commenced on Monday, July 8 and ended on Monday, July 15, 2024.
Regarding BECE for Private Candidates, about 1,366 candidates, comprising 735 males and 631 females participated in the examination. fifteen (15) centres, mainly in the regional capitals were used during the private examination.
The West African Examinations Council tasked 2,123 supervisors, 1,889 assistant supervisors and 19,973 invigilators to ensure the smooth conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examination for School held in 2,123 centres nationwide.
