MoE gives update on 2nd term basic schools reopening date

Following claims that the reopening date of public basic schools has been postponed from April 3, 2023, to April 11, 2023, the Ministry in Charge of Education says the 2023 2nd term basic schools reopening date remains unchanged.
Deputy spokesman for the Ministry, Yaw Opoku Mensah in a communique sighted by AcademicWeek said: “The public is cautioned to disregard any publication stating that the reopening date for all Basic Schools has been postponed to 11th April, 2023.”
The Ministry of Education Public Relations Officer (PRO) continued that “the reopening date of all basic schools remains 3rd April 2023 as earlier communicated through Ghana Education Service (GES) official channels.”
In a related development, the GES after it declared April 13, 2023, as the Easter vacation date for first-year students in public Senior High Schools has announced a new vacation date for the Free SHS students to go on Easter break.
In a letter to heads of Senior High/Technical Schools, the management of the Service in charge of Education said the first-year students in second-cycle schools would break for academic activities on April 6, 2023, for the 2023 Easter.
“The management wishes to remind Heads of all Senior High Schools/Senior High Technical Schools that students should break on Thursday, April 6, 2023, for the Easter Holidays,” it said in the letter to heads of public schools.
The Ghana Education Service also (GES) informed heads of government Senior High Schools running the transitional calendar the first-year students will continue with their vacation until their scheduled re-opening in June 2023.
“Management also wishes to inform Heads of Second Cycle Schools running the Transitional Calendar that SHS One (1) students are to continue with their vacation until their scheduled re-opening in June 2023,” GES noted.

The Education Service added, “Regional Directors are by this letter directed to ensure that Heads of second cycle schools in their respective regions take note and comply accordingly to facilitate a smooth running of the academic year.”
