Age
Born on October 17, 1961, in Nkanu West L.G.A., Enugu State, his journey to stardom was marked by resilience and determination. He died at aged 62.
Early Life and Education
Following the untimely demise of his father, young John Okafor relocated to Sapele, where he embarked on a journey of self-sufficiency. Despite facing financial constraints, he tirelessly worked various odd jobs to support his education and family. After completing his secondary education, he pursued further studies at the College of Education, Yola, albeit briefly, before financial hurdles forced him to withdraw. However, undeterred by setbacks, he later enrolled at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, once he could afford to do so.
Career
Mr. Ibu’s illustrious career spanned both the silver screen and the world of music. He graced over 200 Nollywood productions, endearing himself to audiences with memorable performances in iconic films such as “Mr. Ibu” (2004), “Mr. Ibu 2” (2005), and “Mr. Ibu in London” (2005), among many others. His comedic timing and larger-than-life persona endeared him to fans across Nigeria and beyond.
In addition to his acting prowess, Mr. Ibu dabbled in music, releasing tracks like “This Girl” and “Do You Know,” showcasing his versatility and creative range.
Health Challenges And Cause Of Death
Despite his soaring success, John Okafor faced health challenges that tested his resolve. In October 2023, he disclosed his battle with a debilitating illness that threatened his mobility and necessitated multiple surgeries. The outpouring of support from fans and well-wishers, including the intervention of the Abubakar Bukola Saraki Foundation, provided much-needed relief by covering his medical expenses.
Tragically, despite undergoing a leg amputation in a bid to prolong his life, John Okafor succumbed to his health complications on March 2, 2024, leaving behind a legacy that transcends the boundaries of entertainment.
