NADMO: Accusations of Relief Item Hoarding Surface After Dam Spillage
In the wake of a devastating dam spillage disaster in the Ketu South Constituency of Ghana, serious allegations have emerged regarding the hoarding of relief items intended for flood victims by Nadmo. The Assemblyman for Ketu South, Mawufemor Kofi Folivi, has accused Paul Alosode, an officer in charge of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) office in the constituency, of withholding aid.
The dispute began when various organizations decided to donate relief items directly to community leaders, bypassing the NADMO office. Allegedly, this prompted the NADMO officer to withhold aid as a form of punishment.
Folivi claimed that when the flooding crisis began, some relief items were brought to the NADMO office, but not all affected individuals received assistance. When the Assemblyman inquired about this, the NADMO officer explained that the initial items were insufficient and that he intended to distribute more when additional supplies arrived.
However, Ghana Gas Company Limited and the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area provided additional aid. Folivi suggested merging these new items with the existing ones at the NADMO office to ensure that everyone in the affected communities received relief.
Alosode, however, refused to distribute the new donations, arguing that since they had not passed through his office, he could not allocate them. According to the NADMO officer, those who received donations directly from other organizations were being punished.
Folivi expressed his frustration with this decision, emphasizing that the NADMO office was the intended source of relief items, and their distribution would have complemented the aid provided by other organizations. He attempted to involve the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in the area but received no immediate resolution.
The situation has raised concerns about the delay in providing critical relief to flood victims, leaving the affected communities in dire need. Folivi questioned the NADMO officer’s rationale for withholding aid that was originally intended for disaster victims.
While this dispute remains unresolved, the focus should be on expediting the distribution of relief items to ensure that flood victims receive the necessary support during this challenging time.
The Assemblyman and concerned community members are eager for a resolution that prioritizes the welfare of those affected by the dam spillage disaster.
